Pronunciation is a basic foundation to advance Listening and Speaking skills in any language. Here we share several practical sources that help you master Pronunciation in a short time effectively. It should not be a problem whether you want to imitate a British or an American accent.
Before sharing all efficient Pronunciation sources, do you know how many sounds are in the British International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)? The answer is 44 including07 short, 05 long, 08 diphthongs, 15 voiced, and 09 unvoiced sounds.
The IPA is completely different from the English Alphabet, including 26 letters as follows. As you see, there are phonemes below each letter, which shows how to pronounce them correctly.
Every word is formed by these 26 letters, but 44 sounds in the British IPA form their Pronunciation. If you already get it, let’s get down to business.
1. The sounds of English from BBC Pronunciation
In this series, there are 45 free video lessons, including one introduction video and 44 video lessons teaching 44 sounds in the IPA. If you are a British accent fan, you should try this out by simply searching “The Sounds of English from BBC Pronunciation” on YouTube.
Each lesson teaches you how to pronounce each sound and apply it to practice right away. Furthermore, in some lessons, they show you the differences between some similar sounds so you can fully differentiate them.
It depends on your current level and how much time you are willing to study to tell how long you need to master all 44 sounds in the IPA. So we share free practicing materials to help you practice more and boost your skills faster.
We want to build a stronger community where test-takers support others to achieve their desired scores. So your feedback on our DET Practice Platform would be truly beneficial to support others’ Duolingo English Test journey.
